This part-time role is a 1099/independent contractor position without benefits.
As currently funded, the position is expected to start in March 2024 and finish in August 2024.
This position will be supervised by the Adult Language Learning Coordinator.

The Community Support Specialist's primary focus is to address the diverse needs of community members and enhance their access to resources, support, and information.
The Community Support Specialist will serve as a member of the Social Work Library Team and be responsible for:
Providing one-on-one support and referrals for patrons in need of assistance with diverse social service needs, including mental health, substance abuse, health, education, housing, food, community resources, and/or case management services.
Connecting, building, and maintaining collaborative relationships with community agencies, neighborhood groups, social services agencies, and volunteer organizations.
Collaborating with library staff to develop and implement inclusive programs and workshops addressing various community needs.
Being attentive to patrons experiencing emotional distress, providing immediate assistance, and connecting them with appropriate resources.
Collaborating with local crisis intervention services to ensure a swift and compassionate response.
Collecting and maintaining data to document outcomes.
Performing other duties as assigned by the ALL Coordinator.
Ideal Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience working with diverse populations (professional or experiential), and an understanding of local resources in the East Providence area.
Availability should include some day and evening hours and ability to start employment within two weeks from job offer.

Minimum requirements:
High school diploma/GED and a combination of education and skills to effectively carry out responsibilities and assignments Previous experience working in a community-based setting.
Demonstrated cultural competency for working with multilingual, multicultural communities representing countries around the world Empathetic and compassionate approach to supporting individuals with diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences Strong interpersonal and communication skills Knowledge of community resources and social services Experience in community engagement or support services Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Capability to adapt and take initiative Clear understanding of legal responsibilities and industry requirements related to the role, such as confidentiality procedures.
Basic understanding of the immigration process and restrictions.
Successful criminal background check inquiry (BCI) with the RI Attorney General's office.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
